Why the 2022 Keystone Outback Feels Like the Right First Choice
I’ve spent the last year watching every RV tour on YouTube, scrolling through used RV listings like it was my side job, and sketching out floorplans on napkins. I’m not new to the idea of RV life. I just haven’t owned one—yet.
And the more I looked around, the more I realized I didn’t want something that felt like a “starter RV.” I’m not interested in flimsy finishes or cramped kitchens that I’d instantly want to gut. I wanted something that looked and felt just a little more elevated, but still simple. Still me.
That’s when I found this:

Minimalist Vibe, But With Real Comfort
I’m a minimalist. I don’t need three slide-outs or bunk beds I’ll never use. I just want a comfortable place that’s easy to tow, efficient to set up, and doesn’t scream “entry level.” The Outback 221UMD checks every box I didn’t even know I had:
- Slick, Modern Interior – Light cabinetry, clean finishes, and a layout that feels open, not overwhelming. I don’t really see myself storing anything long-term in these cabinets, but I like that I have them. For now, it’s a great place to story my coat, a hoodie, and my shopping bags. It’s easy on the eyes, and feels more like a studio apartment than a trailer.
- Rear Kitchen Design – I love to cook, but I hate clutter. The kitchen in the back gives me counter space without eating into my living area. Plus, it keeps everything in one zone—cook, clean, done. I mostly use the microwave.
- Dinette for Work + Meals – I can sit with my laptop during the day and eat dinner in the same spot at night. No wasted space.
- A Real Bed (No Murphy Needed) – No folding. No rearranging. I’m not doing any of that. Just a real, walk-around bed with storage underneath. Easy. As someone who values simplicity, I don’t want my bed to double as a sofa. I just want it to be a bed.
Not Too Big. Not Too Small.
At just over 26 feet long, this trailer is small enough to tow without a monster truck but big enough to live in full-time if I want to. It’s great for a small family, but I’m a solo traveler. It’s ideal if you want space. I don’t want to be squeezing around corners or dealing with a trailer that feels like a maze.
The layout flows. The storage is smart. And the slide-out gives just enough room to breathe without making setup a hassle. It’s simple, but thoughtful—and that’s what makes it such a smart first-RV choice.
